KW-QI-008 V1.0 Incoming Inspection Standard for MIL-DTL-38999 Connector Housings

We’ve put in place new incoming inspection rules for connector housings and shells, documented as KW-QI-008 V1.0. This standard was made for our MIL-DTL-38999 connector shells, with 25 checkpoints split between Class A and Class B requirements.
Class A covers critical features. Fail any Class A check, and we reject the entire batch immediately. Our QA team checks surface finish, plating integrity, scratches, dents and corrosion. They also verify threads, keyways, pin slots, flange surfaces and grounding bosses. Tools used include 10x magnifiers, calipers, CMM, profile projectors and thread gauges for all dimensional work.
Plating gets fully evaluated too. We run XRF or EDX analysis to confirm plating materials. Plating thickness, salt spray performance and hydrogen embrittlement risk all sit within our test scope. We check material certificates and hardness to make sure aluminum alloy, stainless steel and titanium raw stock meet specs. Electrical continuity and internal cleanliness are also Class A checks.
Class B items are secondary traits we still watch closely. Flange flatness, sealing groove flatness, coaxiality and plating adhesion fall under this category. A single Class B flaw won’t trigger full batch rejection, but we record every issue. These records help us keep improving our production quality over time.
This incoming inspection standard locks in quality right at the start of production. We screen shell parts before assembly, so fewer defective connectors move down the line. It keeps our MIL-DTL-38999 circular connectors consistent, no matter if customers order small samples or mass bulk goods.
