MIL-DTL-38999 Circular Connectors: Strict Insulator Assembly Process

Quite a number of connector manufacturers only run tests once products are fully finished. For us, quality checks run through every stage of assembly.

We kick off insulator production with the first visual check. Operators count the insulators and examine their surface state before starting any processing work. After that, trimming and deburring begins. Our workers remove sharp edges with care, making sure not to damage the main body. They rotate each component all the way around to catch tiny scratches easy to overlook. Next step is marking, printing clear part identifiers on insulators and wire seals.

Once marking is done, we carry out a second round inspection. Team members count parts, check if prints are legible, and verify the whole assembly stack: high insulator, wire seal, backplate and low insulator. We double check marking direction and surface appearance. Electron microscopes are used for close-up checks when needed.

Then we install clip springs. Staff confirm spring type, check installation direction, watch out for reversed or deformed springs. When bonding the backplate, we use genuine US 3145 adhesive. Vulcanization is not required. Our technicians set parts straight, take care not to let glue block holes. They wipe off extra glue with clean cloths while it’s still wet. Hole alignment is watched carefully, and we do another full visual check once bonding finishes.
